A activity’s target deadline represents the latest and safest date by which it must be executed.
Note: The “safest date” means the date on which the project becomes potentially at risk of being late.
Target deadlines are interlinked with a milestone’s DPD. When you structure a project, you can either use the target deadline or the DPD to position an activity accordingly. For example, when you don’t know how many days before a project’s deadline an activity should be completed, but you know the exact date it should be done – set a target date for the activity and the system would automatically calculate the DPD. This works the other way around as well.
