Labels help sort activities by different criteria such as type of activity or responsible team. Labels are most commonly used to indicate the department responsible for an activity in your project.

Note: Activities and goals have labels.

Labels can be defined in a project or in a project template. They are very useful when an inexperienced PM has difficulty deciding which department to assign a task to.
